Good quality jackets are typically rugged garments. They should be because they protect the wearer from the cold, wind, and rain. As tough as they are, however, they are vulnerable to tearing. Here are a few simple steps on how to repair a small tear on your jacket without the stitches showing. First, lay the jacket down on a table. Get a piece of cardboard which is slightly bigger than the tear. Place the cardboard underneath the tear with no other layer of fabric in between. Next, line down the tear as best as you can. Ideally, there should be no holes or gaps. It would help if you can overlap one side of the tear with the other by a millimetre or two. Perfect alignment is crucial in the repair process so that the repair would be invisible. The final step is to place a small amount of fabric glue or liquid stitch along the tear. Smoothen the glue with a paper towel or a small piece of cardboard and wipe off any excess. Set the jacket aside and allow the glue to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Do you have an old jacket that you are ready to throw in the trash? Do not dispose of it yet. With just a little bit of creativity, your jacket can stand out again. Here are some ideas on how to rejuvenate it. Buy plenty of patches from a craft store and then sew them on your jacket. Patches are great ways to express your individuality. It will also give your garment a “punk” look. Alternately, you can cut odd-shaped, colourful pieces of cloth from old clothes and sew them onto your jacket. If sewing patches is too tedious for you, you can pin pin-on buttons that depict your favourite bands, movies, or funny sayings. They are also fun to collect and trade with friends. If you have an artistic streak, buy some good-quality fabric paint. Paint your jacket with abstract or street-art designs. You can either spray or brush the paint by hand. You can also buy stencils if you are not too sure about your artistic skills. Finally, if you want to add texture and flash, glue rhinestones or glass beads on your jacket with a hot glue gun.

You might think of the jacket as a common stylish outer garment. But, actually, there are other types of jackets that have practical uses rather than merely being fashionable. For example, there is the anorak or parka, a type of fur-lined hooded jacket to keep the wearer warm in freezing temperature. It is commonly worn by Eskimos in the Arctic region. Then there is the double-breasted chef’s jacket worn by cooks. The garment’s thick cotton cloth protects the wearer from the heat of the stove and the splattering of boiling liquids. Another type of jacket that is worn by military aviators is the flack jacket. This thick garment protects its wearer from shrapnel and other low-velocity projectiles. For protection against wind chills and light rain, a person can wear a windbreaker, which is a thin jacket that is made of glossy synthetic material. For heavier rains, one can wear a raincoat, a type of water-resistant coat. It is sometimes paired with rain pants. Finally, there is the lab coat, a long sleeved jacket that protects its wearer from accidental chemical spills.

As a fashion aficionado, you probably own a chic leather jacket. This garment is quite expensive and if you want to keep it looking its best for years to come, it is imperative that you take good care of it. After every use, spray a bit of water and stain protector to prevent water spots or stains from forming. You can also prevent damage to the material by spraying the garment with a colourless, odourless protective spray before wearing it. To retain its shape and to force wrinkles to drop naturally from the garment, hang your jacket on wide padded hangers. It is also important to store your jacket in a breathable garment bag to avoid condensation from forming. If it gets wet, allow it to dry out in the air. Do not use dryers, heat vents, or other heat sources to speed up the drying process because this will damage and crack the leather. Finally, if you see the leather cracking, apply a leather conditioner. Be sure to check with the manufacturer for the ideal product to use on your jacket.

During the two World Wars, soldiers from both Allied and Axis were also fighting the wet and cold weather in the European parts of the wars. To protect themselves from the rain, wind, and other harsh elements, they developed an overcoat called a trench coat. This was a lighter alternative to the heavy greatcoats that were worn during World War 1. Aside from acting as windbreakers, trench coats were also used as military uniforms for high-ranking officers. After World War 2, the trench coat became fashionable. Its original role as an army officer’s uniform gave the garment a formal, businesslike respectability. Many writers also incorporated the trench coat as a uniform to their characters such as Dick Tracy, The Phantom, and Jack Harkness. Then in the 1960s, it became a fashionable item for the modernist subculture and, at the same time, an alternative to the fishtail parka. Today, trench coats continue to be popular in wetter and colder parts of the world and they remain fashionable and functional.

There are certain tasks that you have to do in order to run your clothing business efficiently. You need to make sure that each one is performed well to generate a high income for your investment.

As an owner, you have to spend a part of your day searching and buying items for your inventory. While you can acquire your resources from one supplier, you will get great deals from various manufacturers. Shopping for apparel wholesale will especially let you cut on supply costs.

After replenishing your inventory, you have to allocate time for creating your display. Match similar clothing styles and group them according to colours. You can also mix clothes along with suitable accessories. For example, lay out corporate attire and add in dark bangles or diamond-studded bracelets.

When you see customers looking around the shop, approach them in a friendly manner and enquire about their needs. Make suggestions and offer them your best products.

Lastly, supervise your staff properly and look into their performance. Make sure they are doing their job well.

How you present yourself and your style of dressing says a lot about you as a leader. Because of this, you need to add power clothes to your wardrobe. Corporate jackets and blazers denote full authority because of their cut. If you want to look authoritative, you need to shop for this type of apparel.

When buying business coats, you have to consider what looks good on you. The best way to determine this is to fit your selections. If you have broad shoulders, do not go for jackets with padding. It will only make you appear larger.

Purchase blazers that complement your skin tone. For example, pale to light-coloured skin can look good in intense and rich hues like black, red, and hot pink. On the other hand, dark skin goes well with warm tones like beige, orange, olive, and grey.

Lastly, go shopping for jackets that are stylish and fashionable. Some of these have classic tailored cuts for a powerful look.
