The art of ironing is old and yet not everyone knows how to do it correctly. Many of us do not put importance to proper ironing but what we do not know is that in many cases, bad ironing skills accounts to damaging of fabric. For preparatory moves, cover your ironing board with a piece of cloth to protect your clothes from being in contact with fabric-damaging surfaces. Put foil on the board too. This will absorb heat and will save you more time in ironing your clothes.
Before even attempting to lay your shirt on the ironing board, check the care instructions of the shirt and follow its ironing specifications. Set the iron to the right setting and wait for it to heat up. If you are planning to iron out various clothes in different fabrics, start with the ones that need to be ironed with the coolest temperature and work your way up. For easier pressing, spray water on different areas of the shirt as moist cloth is easier to iron. When ironing, always start with the collar and then to the sleeves, pressing the back first and then the front area after. Having covered the collar and sleeves, you can now iron the rest of the shirt. Right after ironing the shirt, hang it as soon as you can to maintain its clean and wrinkle-free state. For you to achieve better ironing result, it is also important that you take care of your iron by constantly cleaning it and using it mainly for its main purpose—and that is to iron fabrics only.
