Good quality jackets are typically rugged garments. They should be because they protect the wearer from the cold, wind, and rain. As tough as they are, however, they are vulnerable to tearing. Here are a few simple steps on how to repair a small tear on your jacket without the stitches showing. First, lay the jacket down on a table. Get a piece of cardboard which is slightly bigger than the tear. Place the cardboard underneath the tear with no other layer of fabric in between. Next, line down the tear as best as you can. Ideally, there should be no holes or gaps. It would help if you can overlap one side of the tear with the other by a millimetre or two. Perfect alignment is crucial in the repair process so that the repair would be invisible. The final step is to place a small amount of fabric glue or liquid stitch along the tear. Smoothen the glue with a paper towel or a small piece of cardboard and wipe off any excess. Set the jacket aside and allow the glue to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
